WELCOME TO THE FUTURE OF CANADA

Since its inception in 2020, the Future of Canada Project at McMaster University has sought to better understand the issues and opportunities facing Canada. In 2026, the Maple League of Universities in collaboration with Shad Canada will bring the project to high school students across the country.

Meet and Work
with Passionate Students Locally and Nationally

Participants will get the opportunity to engage with other students from across the country in a supervised, virtual environment. They will work together to apply systems thinking to future-forward research areas and create exciting artifacts that encompass their learning.

Gain Exposure to Faculty from around the Maple League of Universities

Participants will learn from faculty members from Acadia University, Bishop’s University, Mount Allison University, and Saint Francis Xavier University. Virtual mini-lectures will introduce participants to different areas of research in an accessible and engaging format.

Earn a Future of Canada Badge to Include on Post-Secondary Applications

Participants who complete the program will get a specialized badge to represent their achievement throughout the course. These badges will be an excellent extracurricular to feature on future post-secondary applications.

An innovative, fully online, co-curricular course for high school students.

The 2026 Cohort

Our first Future of Canada Cohort will see students from partner schools Armbrae Academy, Bishop’s College School, and Rothesay Netherwood School come together this winter for a month-long educational journey.

The program requires approximately two hours per week, including one hour of live online studio time and one hour of preparation. Over the course of the program, students will:
